Malcolm Lincoln

Malcolm Lincoln is an Estonian electro-pop group and the brainchild of singer Robin Juhkental, who is backed up by guitarist Siim Raidma, Johan Petti on bass and Jakob Juhkam on synths. When performing live, the band is indeed very live, characterized by synchronized movements and gallant costumes. Malcolm Lincoln has signed a publishing and recording deal with Universal Music Finland & Baltics, which has set high hopes on the new artist at both the domestic and international level. The band’s debut album “Loaded with Zoul”, was released on May the 20th 2010 in Scandinavia and the Baltics, and digitally all over the world.

On the debut album « Loaded With Zoul », there are 12 songs, written by Robin Juhkental – electronic tracks with some old-school influences, still more modern electro-music. The general sound of picture is quite different from the “euro- siren”, but still fits in the same format,  it brings positive vibes to listeners as does “loaded with zoul”. Malcolm Lincoln was formed in 2009. The band’s name is inspired from the TV game “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?”, where a player was once convinced that the first name of the US President Lincoln was Malcolm and not Abraham. Robin says that it’s an apt name that also matches the band’s style of producing mostly electronic pop with jesting undertones. Rufus Wainwright´s quote after listening to Malcolm´s debut album: Great album very urbanistic sound, should win a Grammy!

Brussels Pony Club

The new band of our lovely friend Parsifal Marin and his friends !

Tallinn Daggers

They could be your perfect pop duo. There’s your energetic, yet soulful lead singer who’s sincere like Roland Orzabal, nightclub-oriented like Marc Almond and gritty like Shaun Ryder. Instead of the synthgazer, you’ve got a living drum machine who could be a long lost brother of Stephen Morris. Their songs vary from dancey uptempo, house piano and string-ridden numbers to downtempo jams with delayed guitars and soft horns. They made their first appearance in 2009 at a dance music festival « Robotaanika Park » located at a beach which could have affected their sound and appearance. The duo have started to use more traditional latin percussions, more organic sounds and adapted an overall summery vibe. On paper they’re pop at its purest but still they can appeal to different crowds. They have played with cult British indie pop band St. Christopher, Estonian industrial heavyweights Pedigree and with a disco-funk side project of Trans Am’s drummer Sebastian Thomson called Publicist. In 2010, the band started releasing it’s music through their own record label Love Forever. Their released their debut album « Like a Diamond » in June 6.

Raul Saaremets

Raul Saaremets is a legendary figure in Estonia’s music scene. He has also proven himself as a punk/rock drummer and a rock artist as a member of a respectable local group Röövel Ööbik, but still probably his main importance lies in his work as a radio and club DJ and promoter of the local scene. As a program co-director in Estonia’s national radio station « Raadio 2″, he has helped or supported bringing on air a lot of different alternative music shows (which literally don’t exist in the programs of Estonia’s other radio stations). His own weekly shows are « Tramm Ja Buss » for drum’n’bass music and the legendary « Vibratsioon » show, which focuses more on house and techno music but is actually playing all kinds of stuff that Raul likes to share with his audience (both these shows can be freely listened to from the internet from Raadio2′s website).

Secondly, he and Rhythm Doctor were the two guys back in year 1997 to start the Mutant Disco, Estonia’s first monthly independent electronic music event. The event is still alive and kicking and as popular as ever with Raul and Rhythm Doctor still playing themselves and regularly bringing DJs from abroad for the Estonian audience to see. Raul Saaremets also does some club DJ-ing besides « Mutant Disco » in Tallinn’s clubs like « Club Prive » and other places where he gets invited to. He also is a producer at Estonian label Umblu Records.

Vaiko Eplik

Vaiko Eplik was born into a music-loving family he studied music at the Tallinn Music School, specialising in pop-jazz singing and also studied the guitar, which he now teaches. The British Council nominated Eplik for the International Young Music Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2008 in the following words: « Vaiko is a highly creative and engaging individual who is clearly passionate about music. He is obviously a highly influential figure in the Estonian industry. The judges appreciate his integrity and his thought-through artistic approach. He has defined his own business model that reflects his aspirations and expectations and that allows him to quietly champion a different approach. » After the split of the group, Eplik started his solo project under the name Eliit. He has released three albums, all of them reaching the top of Estonian album charts. He has emphasised his aspiration to « earn enough money to get by, and keep being intelligent and free to be creative with music. » Eplik is a principled independent artist, producing his music at home and releasing it under his independent record label. He has commented on it in the following words: « Home-made music has no rival… From now on to in about five years time, record companies will be bankrupt. »
